In early winter, more than 500 mu (about 33.33 hectares) of grapefruit get ripened in Changputang Village, Liaojiaqiao Town, Fenghuang County. In the fruit base, orange and heavy grapefruit are hanging on trees, like “golden eggs” under the sunlight.
Villagers are busy picking grapefruit with baskets, while tourists are taking photos in the grapefruit garden. Loads of fresh grapefruit are transported to the roadside for sale, priced at 100 yuan per bag or 150 yuan two bags, and they are quickly sold out.
In recent years, Changputang has embarked on a distinctive development path of strengthening the village through fruit, technology, and cultural tourism.
“Our village has a grapefruit planting area of over 500 mu (about 33.33 hectares). This year, with favorable weather, the yield of grapefruit has reached over 50,0000 kilograms, and villagers have increased their income. After years of product improvement, there are now 3 to 4 varieties of grapefruit, which are juicy and delicious,” said Tian Shunxin, an official of Changputang Village.
Nowadays, in Changputang Village, fruits such as kiwifruit, grapefruit, and tangerines, distant residential buildings with white walls and grey tiles, and brand-new hiking trails constitute a thriving and beautiful rural picture, attracting numerous tourists.
